EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

An event calendar of some centralized competitions held in each term, is sent in the beginning of the academic year by the head office.

Competitions:

Beside curriculum, some extra-curricular activities are also held to enhance students’ creativity and promote their critical thinking. such as Talent Hunt, Photography, Videography  competition, singing, poetry, recitation etc.

Trips:

The school trips are organized at different time of the year combining both recreational and educational aims. for example, a trip to a museum though primarily educational, is also recreational.  The very fact that classmates are travelling and experiencing things together, makes the trip recreational.  Similarly, a trip to a theme park though primarily recreational, is also educational.  Children learn to make queues, wait for their turn, buy tickets etc. make the trip educational.

Trip organizers should focus on both these aspects.  In selecting the places to visit, the organizers should make sure that the children have enough fun whilst learning new things.

Events and Functions:

Parents and or Others are to be invited only on two functions in a year:

    • Parents Day (Annual Prize Distribution)
    • Funfair /Sports Day

The Head may conduct mothers coffee parties, movie nights, Milads etc. The school may on some occasions require parents’ contribution towards special functions in which the pupil is participating. Parents’ contribution may also be required in providing costumes etc. for plays or functions in which the pupil is participating.

Part of each teacher’s work at the school is to stimulate artistic as well as intellectual creativity in her pupils.  Whether a teacher is solely responsible for a display of the performing arts or is helping her colleagues in the organization and preparation of a show, high standards of competence and dedication are required. Teachers may be asked to liaise with parents regarding rehearsals, costumes or props, or to assist at rehearsals, or front of house management. Participating in a well-organized, successful concert builds confidence and poise in children and is a rewarding experience for the staff members concerned. Functions should not exceed 2 hours including the time for prize distribution preferably on following days.

Preference 1: Saturday

Preference 2: Friday

Not to be held on public holidays. If held on Sunday or a weekday, the in case of Junior School, the next day should be declared a holiday.  BUT holding functions on these days should be avoided. All presentation must be in English except for an occasional Urdu poem/song/sketch. The content of each presentation must be of an excellent standard, approved by the Head of the school.  The final rehearsal must be attended by the Regional Director’s nominee.  The nominee must approve the content, style etc of all the items in the function.

Compèring may be conducted by the staff and/or by students.  The selection of compères must be based on their English pronunciation, fluency as well as their ability to generate interest among the audience. (A grim faced compère makes a negative impression).

The co-educational character of the school to be maintained at functions, with no gender-based segregation till class 5. The Country School follows the policy of the relevant Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on co-education. Chief Guests at functions are to be from within the system.  Prior approval of non-system guests has to be given by The Country School Regional Director.

The function must start at the stated time.  A wait of 15 minutes is permissible for outside chief guests.  However, if the chief guest is late, the function may start with the announcement regarding the delay in the Guest’s arrival.  On the late arrival of the guest, an announcement of his/her arrival is made. A clear instruction to the invitees must be given regarding the attendance of children/babies.  This must be fully implemented regardless of whether the babies/children belong to the teachers/management etc.
